History
In 1915 Ed Horn began working for the Michigan Life Saving Service located at Round Island Lighthouse before the U.S. Coast Guard was in existence. He was stationed on Mackinac Island with his wife, Violet, and their three sons, Edward “Amos”, Archie, and Raymond “Ty”.
In the late 1920s Edward and Violet leased the current Horn’s Bar building and ran a pool hall and snack shop business which was later to become Horn’s Gaslight Bar, after the prohibition era. Amos and Nell Horn, Patti Ann’s grandparents, passed the business on to her.
Recently, owners Patti Ann and her husband, Steven, updated the decor at Horn’s and put in an impressive new bar.
Horn’s is best known as one of the island’s night spots, but it is also a favorite for Mexican/southwestern dishes, along with traditional American fare. (Check out our Menus.) During the day you can sing along with the piano. At night, it’s a great place to watch or participate in the eclectic dancing scene with islanders, summer workers, tourists and conventioneers.
